I grew up in both the Netherlands and in Canada as a middle child of eight, on a family farm. I earned a bachelor of science degree in biochemistry from the University of Waterloo, Canada, and then moved to the United States to work as a protein biochemist. I currently live in Hanover, and have been a full time Realtor for five years, licensed in Maryland and DC.
I love new challenges and meeting new people. Real estate has plenty of both and that’s why I love it. My goal as a real estate agent is to work to reduce the stress out the sales process for my clients and making them and keeping them informed.
I am an avid gardener and have a love of nature. I love to grow plants from seed, especially plants that are not available locally. Having several families of deer visit my back yard on a daily basis does limit what I can grow and where, but this is just another challenge to overcome, just as having terribly sandy soil and summers that are too hot some days. Growing up on a vegetable farm likely contributed significantly to my love for all things green. The farm had many different crops over the years, at different times asparagus, cauliflower, grass seed, potatoes, various beans, flax, broccoli, cabbage, brussel sprouts, kale, red beets, corn, soybeans, wheat, barley, poppy seed, celery-root, sugar-beets and coleseed, sheep, cattle, and a few horses for fun. Every February, I start tomatoes from seed in my basement, mostly to give away as mature plants to former clients and friends. My thing is if you are going to go through the trouble to grow your own tomatoes, try to grow the best tasting, healthiest and well yielding tomatoes! The best, definitely Jasper!
I also enjoy bicycling, likely influenced by growing up in the Netherlands. When the weather doesn’t cooperate and allow for biking outdoors, I am quite happy to spin in my basement, although biking through scenic views is undoubtedly better. I also enjoy riding my motorcycle around town, and to work when I can.
I am a supporter of a number of great charities including The Carter Center, Doctors without Borders, Feeding America, World Renew, The Nature Conservancy, and Oxfam. Given my love for gardening I am working with my homeowners’ association to improve neighborhood trees and landscaping, and restoring forest preservation areas. For my church, I am an active member of the Building and Grounds Committee, taking care of I am enjoying contributing to the Howard County Association of Realtors, serving on the Board of Directors, and leading the Education Committee and is being a member of the Fair Housing Committee.
